Shopping List

  • Purchase store brands where possible (Western Family, Lucerne, President's Choice).
  • Purchase items in PLASTIC containers not glass.
  • Don't buy bulk – in plastic bags things look alike & bags puncture.
  • Pack in sturdy boxes – Liquor Control Board box size is easy to manage – label contents
  • Purchase amounts specified - or at least the quantity listed
  • Ask for a store discount.

Staples & Other Items

Camp 1 purchases for all 3 camps. Cooks to ensure that no more than 1/3 of the items for all 3 camps be used at their camp.

Two coolers required, but do not freeze.

Cheese - Block not sliced Medium Cheddar 4 x 500g
Old Cheddar 4 x 500 g
Assortment -(e.g. Monterrey Jack, Swiss, Brick) 4 x 500 g

Eggs - medium – regular eggs are fine, don't have to be “farm fresh” 9 dozen

Meat And Frozen - Store in one cooler

Sausages – turkey or breakfast 40
Ham for dinner Precooked (freeze before taking into camp) 8 lbs
Ham Unsliced for breakfasts 2 x 1 kg
Lunch Meat Pre-sliced - buy selection - turkey, chicken, black forest ham, beef, and salami. No Montreal smoked beef or pastrami - doesn't keep 3 kg in vacuum packages to keep it from going bad

Frozen (store in cooler with meat)

Strawberries Buy in plastic bags – boxes leak. Double bag. 3 x 600 g.
Orange juice 13 x 355 ml tins
Shortcake cups (bakery section) 24

Dry Goods

Duct tape 2 rolls – each roll 41 m size
Paper towels (buy choose-a-size or adjust-a-size which are smaller sheets) 4 large rolls
Garbage bags 10 large
Hand Sanitizer Pump 2 for cook tent & 2 for biffy 4 x 470 ml
Toilet paper 16 large double sized rolls.
Fire logs (Enviro type. not type from coffee grounds)1 box

Produce

Purchase produce on Thursday or Friday before camp. Don't buy “bagged” produce as usually getting old, not good quality, doesn't keep. Select & count correct amount.

Bread

Whoever picks up the bread Thursday or Friday before camp calls the store beforehand to confirm the order.

Ordering bread

  • Inform baker that bread MUST be completely cool before bagging to prevent sweating.
  • Request bread be packed in sturdy boxes with lids. Banana boxes work well. Not flats as they are too bulky.
  • If bakery can't do it, box it yourself.
Dinner buns for Saturday dinner and beef stew 5 dozen
